Get started with the Konsolidator Konnect Framework startup file (prebuild connection to Konnect)

The Konsolidator Konnect Framework startup file is an Excel workbook that helps you retrieve Konsolidator data into Excel through Konnect. Instead of building Power Query connections from scratch, you can use the startup file as a predefined starting point for Excel-based reporting, analysis, or data checks.

The file includes a setup sheet where you can select the tables you want to retrieve and limit the amount of data included in each refresh.

We recommend using this file as the starting point for Excel-based reporting from Konsolidator.

Before you start

Before using the file for the first time, make sure you have generated a Konnect API key. To generate or update your API key, follow our guide: how to update your Konnect API key.

You need either a version of Microsoft Excel newer than 2013 or an up-to-date version of Microsoft Excel 365 that supports current data source handling.

How to get started

We always recommend using this file as a starting point for any data retrieval from Konsolidator to Excel.

  1. Open the file in Excel.
  2. Go to the Data menu and select Refresh all.

Excel retrieves data from Konsolidator Konnect based on your setup and API key access.

NB: The file makes several smaller calls to retrieve supporting tables and the selected data tables. If your API key is incorrect or missing, Excel may show multiple error messages during refresh.
Close the error messages, check your API key setup, and refresh the file again.

You may also need to confirm the privacy level settings in Excel. Excel uses privacy levels to control how data sources can work together. For the file to refresh correctly, the workbook's privacy level and the Konnect API data source must be compatible.

Latest changes

The latest version improves support for customers working with more than one reporting currency.

Latest changes:

  • The previous version only supported one reporting currency.
  • The new ReportingCurrencies column can contain up to three reporting currencies, provided they are selected in Konsolidator.
  • The ReportingCurrencies column uses the following format: [Currency1:ReportingAmountPeriod1:ReportingAmountYTD1||Currency2:ReportingAmountPeriod2:ReportingAmountYTD2||Currency3:ReportingAmountPeriod3:ReportingAmountYTD3]
    Where:
    • Currency: The currency code (e.g. EUR, USD, DKK)
    • ReportingAmountPeriod: Amount for the given period (monthly or quarterly)
    • ReportingAmountYTD: Year-to-date amount
  • This update makes it possible to work with multiple reporting currencies in your reporting and makes it clear which currency each amount is reported in
  • The reporting example in the file now also shows budget figures.

Don’t want to use the Konnect API Framework file?

Advanced users can also connect directly to the data source URL and build their own Excel setup. If you choose this option, you must limit data per server call and have the required Excel and data handling skills.

History

File/version   Comment

  • In the latest version, it is only possible to use a web API key. This means we have outphased credentials (username/password).
To update yours, follow our guide: how to update your Konnect API key
  • We have added a tags column, named: "Tags" in the Group Accounts (GA) sheet.
  • We have added an Analytical dimensions table, named: "dimensions group (DG)". Additionally, the column is called "Dimensions" in CA, UA, JE, CKPI and UKPI sheets.
  • Added the two new Konnect tables, "elimination-types" and "mapped-cashflow-accounts", to the framework file.

  • Added support for authorizing/signing-in using the new user API key feature (signing in using username and password still works and in the same way as before)
  • Also added the new column containing the "ConsolidatedAt"/"UploadedAt"-timestamp for all lines in consolidated/uploaded-accounts for advanced BI purposes
  • Minor branding changes and renaming of the file itself has been done to align with coming offerings
  • New versioning syntax for easier tracking
  • Fixed the minor bug from the previous release that turned out to also affect the UKPI (only)
  • Fixed minor bug where the "exchange-rates" table in certain cases would contain duplicate rows. This would only happen when the user selected to retrieve more than one Group Structure at the same time, so not an issue for most users in most use cases

  • Added new supporting table "consolidations" that contains information about when consolidations has been done and by whom
  • First official release
